Based in South West London, Christian is renowned for his glamorous illustration work, which speaks of elegance and luxury. He’s been drawing and painting for as long as he can remember, and has developed a bold style that’s perfect across fashion and beauty.
Christian studied art at A Level, but went on to study business at university. He gained experience working in a design agency, painting purely for pleasure in his own time until he had enough work to assemble a solid portfolio. From there he launched his career as a full time illustrator.
Christian subconsciously goes through a series of steps with each image he creates. He sketches prolifically and often creates many rough versions of an image. He initially aims to get the proportions right before deciding the level of detail in the image. This ‘leaving out’ process is what gives his work its unique style. He uses a combination of watercolour, ink and gouache.
Less is definitely more, is one of his mottos. By leaving certain things out of his final image, he invites the viewer to fill in these details themselves thereby involving them in the artwork. He likens looking at an illustration to seeing a sentence where the words have been scrambled up, and still being able to make sense of it.
