The new American Realism

Soho is one of my favorite neighborhoods in NYC. It is plenty of boutiques, cafes and bistros, and art galleries.

From place to place, in one of the galleries that I stopped I've seen an exhibition of Michael Carson. I had heard about him, but never seen his work. Honestly, it's impressive.

He is influenced by Toulouse Lautrec, John Singer Sargent and Norman Rockwell  while figurative painting was rediscovered as Realism by the late 19th century and early 20th.

And like Tolouse Lautrec, he painted the night places - bars, casinos, intimate bedrooms- creating stories.
