Even "Lolita" is a controversial novel by Vladimir Nabokov, is one of my favorites. It is a piece for every bookcase or kindle if you are a reader.
Federico Infante, Chilean-born artist from Santiago, is based in New York. He created nine beautiful illustration for The Folio's Society Fine Edition of Lolita, being the first time that the Nabokov's work has been illustrated.
Each of the subjects of his illustrations for Lolita appear as pale, crumbling murals, the paint of the landscape peeling away around them.
When he created that, he was aware of the content of the book and he didn't want to fall into the mistake of getting the wrong perspective between the characters and the atmosphere of the story.

The relationship between the characters and the atmosphere is very important in the book. When you read it, you realize how abstract is the background of the story. And Federico Infante has been capable of reflecting that. Using abstract backgrounds, the images emerge from them as a fragile, elegant and mysterious scenes.
